Champions Network Meeting

Thursday 14th October 2010: Airspace Conference Centre, Imperial War Museum, Duxford

It was great to see so many NHS Champions at the networking day during Staying Healthy at Work week. We hope you all found the day useful for learning, networking and sharing information.

The day started with a programme update from A Cooper, programme lead. Annie reflected on the journey so far, and thanked everyone for their time and commitment in getting health and wellbeing on the agenda in NHS organisations around the east of England.

Annie updated everyone on the changes to the regional Staying Healthy at Work team and gave an overview of the plan for managing the future. The website will be used as the main source of information and resource to NHS Champions and there will continue to be a focus on enabling shared learning and development through six monthly network forums. In order to enable greater regional engagement, information and expertise in driving forward the SHaW work, we aim to establish a champion’s reference group, which will work on a virtual basis. If you are interested in joining the reference group please let us know.

Roddy gives Mental Health First Aid taster

Roddy Herbert from Koru International, who works with MIND First Aid (for Business) and Mental Health First Aid England, gave Champions a taster of Mental Health first aid. Roddy enabled the audience to think about how they would approach someone with a mental health issue and encouraged the view that someone who has or has had a mental health issue may bring opportunity rather than threat to an employer. Roddy went on to discuss the legal implications of ignoring mental health issues in the workplace.
For further information please see Roddy’s presentation handout.
